Tribute to Mary Elizabeth Boleyn

Today, as I am commemorating what would have been your 40th birthday, Mary, my heart is filled with a medley of emotions. Your journey, though marked by the challenges of Cystic Fibrosis, was a beacon of courage, vulnerability, and stamina. Your life was a testament to living each moment to the fullest, embracing every ‘TaDa’ moment with open arms and a contagious zest for life.

Born on November 27, 1983, in Guelph, Ontario, you entered this world bringing light and love. You always knew how unique and special you were, Mary. Each moment was precious, and you lived your life with an unwavering spirit of celebration, symbolized by your favorite expression, “TaDa!” This wasn’t just a word for you; it was a philosophy, a way to acknowledge and cherish every achievement, big or small.

Your TaDa moments weren’t just about joy; they were also about hope and purpose. You wanted to pack as many of these moments into your life as possible, sharing them generously with friends and family. Known for your “singing arms-flung” expressions, you became an embodiment of joy and resilience.

As your father, I’ve always been in awe of your strength and your planning, even in your final moments. Your eyes, full of contentment and hope, spoke volumes as you embraced your last TaDa moment. You transitioned on July 24, 2017, at home, surrounded by love, fulfilling your wish to leave peacefully, in stark contrast to the often lonely and painful exits faced by many with CF.

Your legacy extends beyond your physical presence. The Mary Boleyn Hospice Foundation Inc, inspired by your vision, now stands as a beacon of hope and support for CF families, ensuring they receive the care and comfort they need during their most challenging times. The Thumb’s Up TaDa logo symbolizes your enduring spirit, raising awareness and funds for hospice care.

Your father’s songs, written in your honor, resonate with the love and purpose you instilled in all of us. The lyrics, “Now I miss you sometimes more than I can bear,” echo the deep void left by your absence, yet also remind us of the enduring bond between a father and his daughter. Your life, although cut short, was a melody of love, hope, and unwavering spirit.

In your own words, Mary, spoken following the Coins for Change event, every sentence needs a new breath, and every dream needs a new challenge. You lived by these words, turning every challenge into an opportunity to make a difference. Your speech at the Kinsmen’s Club remains a powerful reminder of your determination and vision.

As I celebrate your life today, I am reminded of your unwavering spirit, your love for life, and the legacy you have left behind. Mary Elizabeth Boleyn, you were, and always will be, a shining light in the lives of those you touched. Your TaDa moments continue to inspire us, and your legacy lives on in the hearts of many.

Happy 40th birthday, Mary. Your spirit continues to guide us, encouraging us to find joy in every moment and to live our lives with purpose and hope.

Happy 13th Birthday

We celebrated your birthday here at your mom’s memorial. The picture I am holding was brought to me by her the week she transitioned to a new beginning.

The video was filmed by Dr. Pankaj Chand, my best friend and Mary’s confidant at St. Mary’s Hospital where she was admitted multiple times.

This is circa 2010 – Mary 27 years

Yes, I see you, Mary!

Just look what I can do daddy

Yes Mary I’m still watching you

I see all of your laughter and all of your smiles

They remind me with each rising sun

All the love you gave Clara and all of your friends

And all the wonderful things you have done

Happy Birthday 37, Mary

What a year this has been. You would have been very concerned for your health and Clara. As always, I missed you sometimes more than I can bear. I turn around to see if you’re not there. I hear your voice calling out DADDY. As long as I’m living my baby you’ll be. As long as I’m living and breathing, my baby you’ll be.

Clara. Here is a gallery of pics of your Mom. Love you to the moon and back, Clara.

Your Birthday coming up Nov 27

Just ten more sleeps until your birthday.

Hey, Mary. I was reading this book and thinking about you. I watched you use the principles in this best-selling book to set a goal of bringing Clara into this world. You did it with love, honor, and compassion. TaDa! Good Job!

Love you more than all the grains of sand in the universe. DAD

Mary says…

Mary quite often lived her life and expressed herself through slogans, quips, messages, memes and anything that expressed how she felt and who she was inside. Without a doubt one of the finest child, adult, loving parent and force of purpose souls that ever existed. Hope these inspire and explain.

Growing up with CF

Growing up with CF is what Mary did. Every day, sometimes multiple times in a day, Mary was required to “do a mask” treatment. After each inhalation treatment, I would put Mary upside down on my lap and “clap” her back and upper chest to loosen the mucus in her lungs so she could cough it up.

I addition, Mary took Cotezym to help her digest her food. She could not leave the house without the meds. Her teachers in school knew to help remind her to take her meds before eating.

This one of the earliest pictures of Mary having her mask treatment while playing Nintendo with step-brother Michael.

Mary Boleyn Bookmark

This is the book and bookmark that Mary had when she arrived Jul 16, 2017, in Durham, NC. A number of pages were highlighted, dogeared, and annotated. Mary never gave up on learning more about herself and life. What a great reminder. Thank you, sweetie.

Fun Facts About Mary

Did you know Mary loved to eat at Mongolian Grill? It is a restaurant where you load up a bowl with a selection of meat and veggies and toppings. Then you take that to a cook who puts in on a giant circular grill and mixes it over the heat until perfectly created.

Mary loved to pile it as high with meat as she could because she wanted to eat as many calories as possible to help offset her CF. Her entire life, she had a strong purpose to care for herself. Not an easy feat when you know the outcome in advance.

Mary was courageous beyond the average person. She kept her goals mostly to herself. She would let everyone know when she wanted something when ready. A very loving spirit her entire life.

Miss you sometimes more than I can bear.

TaDa Merchandise

This is exciting. I have started really promoting TaDa as a meme across multiple media. I have coffee cups, especially for you, Mary, stickers, magnets, t-shirts, note cards. This will go viral.

This is for you Mary! Love you, DAD
